I recently just celebrated my 40th time around the sun. In the last decade, I’ve pretty much just had dinner with family for birthday celebrations. I haven’t really taken a good crack at in a while if you know what I mean. This year I wanted to go big. This year I wanted to celebrate life!
You see for me, it can be really easy to get caught up in the everyday responsibilities of life. I tend to wear many hats and when I am not wearing those hats, I like to relax and catch my breath. Sound familiar? Sometimes I forget to celebrate the wins. And my friends, celebrating the wins, or even just our time here on this planet should be a priority.
Now if you know my mom and pops then you know they know how to throw a great party. Everything is always first class. The catered Mexican cuisine, open bar and world-class DJ’s were just a few of the things that made this night one to remember.
I hand selected and invited each and every one of my friends and family members who’ve made meaningful impacts on my life in the last twenty or so years. Though there were a handful of special friends and family members who couldn’t make it, the night was a success, nonetheless. The one’s who couldn’t make it were missed undoubtedly.
It was great to see some old faces and catch up with some great people. I made sure to scour the entire venue and let people know how much I truly appreciated them coming to celebrate with me.
Now if you know me then you know I am not shy when it comes to the microphone and addressing crowds. I took it back to the old school and spit a little 16 bar rap, encompassing my forty years of life on this planet. The main theme? Appreciate it all.
As I stared into the crowd, I could see the faces of those who made our friendship a priority over the years. I could see the faces of those who have held space for me when life was tricky.
I could see the faces of those who’ve reminded me along the way to keep putting my best foot forward. I could also see the faces of those who have been there through the struggles, and were now celebrating our winning in life. That night was for all of us.
My forty years on this planet has been one for the books. The friends and family I have had the opportunity and pleasure to share it with have made it worthwhile. Through my eyes, one might see I am the richest man alive.
Appreciate it all my friends. Do not forget to celebrate the wins. And when you do celebrate them, make sure you do it with those who multiply the good in your life.
